He started Wing Chun in 1988 under Sifu Lakis Phillipou from whom he learnt both the first and second form. He then became an assistant instructor in North London. He has also had the opportunity to assist in seminars with his then Sifu in Bulgaria and Cyprus. Sifu Akan stopped training and teaching in 1993 and recommenced under Sifu Garry McKenzie in 2003.
